What this site knows about you

Most privacy notices are written to be survivable rather than read. This one is written to be read. If anything here is unclear, that is a defect. Tell me and I will fix the wording.

The short version

  • Reading an article sets no cookies at all and tells me nothing about you personally.
  • Analytics only run if you press Accept. Press Decline and nothing loads, not a stripped-down version, nothing.
  • If you message me or subscribe, I keep what you sent, and only for that purpose.
  • I do not sell anything, I run no advertising, and I do not track you across other websites.
  • You can ask me to delete everything I hold about you, at any time, and I will.

Who is responsible

Iveta Yuskeselieva is the data controller for this website. For anything in this notice, write to the contact page. I am established in Bulgaria.

What happens when you simply read

Nothing is stored on your device. The site is static, so there is no login, no profile and no cookie set for reading. Your request passes through my host, which uses the usual technical information such as your IP address to deliver the page and to defend the site against attack. On the plan this site runs on, detailed request logs are not retained: my host keeps only aggregate traffic counts, which do not identify anyone. I never see who read what.

Four services make this site work: Cloudflare hosts it, Google Analytics counts visits once you have accepted, Formspree delivers the contact form to my inbox, and Buttondown sends the newsletter. Nobody else receives anything.

Analytics, and how to change your mind

Analytics are switched off until you accept them. If you accepted and would rather not have, clear this site's data in your browser settings and the banner will ask you again, and until you answer, nothing loads. I see totals and trends, never individuals.

How long things are kept

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights. Exercising any of them is free, and I will respond within one month.

Access
Ask me what I hold about you, and get a copy.
Rectification
Tell me something is wrong and I will correct it.
Erasure
Ask me to delete it. For the newsletter, the unsubscribe link does this instantly.
Restriction
Ask me to stop using it while something is being sorted out.
Portability
Ask for it in a form you can take elsewhere.
Objection
Object to my relying on legitimate interests, and I will stop unless I can show a compelling reason not to.
Complaint
Complain to the Bulgarian Commission for Personal Data Protection (Комисия за защита на личните данни, КЗЛД), or to the authority where you live.

Children

This site is written for professionals and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16.

If this notice changes

The date at the top changes with it. If a change matters, such as a new service or a new purpose, I will say so here rather than quietly revising the text.

A privacy notice should be a straight answer to a fair question. If this one has not given you that, tell me.
